About this Opportunity

As a Contract Manager 2, you'll conduct activities to manage and control all service agreement contractual and pricing-related activities. You will develop, negotiate, implement, and administer Herman Miller service agreements with our customers. An essential aspect of this position is to facilitate "win/win" agreements between our existing/potential customers, Field Sales/Management, dealer(s), and Herman Miller. You'll create consistent, high-quality service agreements which protect Herman Miller's legal, business, and financial interests, and balance those interests with being customer-centered and oriented. You will protect financial interests through the careful analysis of a business opportunity and by using advanced problem-solving skills in contractual pricing decisions. You'll also deliver specialized skills, knowledge, and consultation to Field Sales which will enhance Herman Miller's competitiveness and likelihood of attaining service volume and financial goals.

  • Acquire and maintain an in-depth understanding of internal Herman Miller operating practices and computer systems.

  • Acquire and maintain an understanding of furniture services market situations, opportunities, competitive activity, pricing trends, and dealership and department capabilities.

  • Act as a single point of contact with other Herman Miller departments and subsidiaries regarding service contractual activities. You will negotiate and document all agreements with these departments/subsidiaries that pertain to contractual commitments.

  • Help formulate strategy for a winning outcome that balances the interests of all involved parties and achieves customer satisfaction as a member of the Service Negotiation Team.

  • Conduct pre-contractual research and analysis on past events/documents and help develop contract negotiation goals and objectives that protect Herman Miller's legal, business, and financial interests. You'll also measure goals/objectives for performance.

  • Consult with other Herman Miller departments and subsidiaries to influence new policy and change initiatives that may impact customer contractual relations.

  • Develop an "expert status" on all furniture service industry contractual matters and Herman Miller operational matters.

  • Develop and nurture productive working relationships with Global Accounts and Regional Sales personnel, including Field Sales, Sales Management, dealer personnel, and other internal partners as needed to perform all essential duties.

  • Direct and manage the contract/services agreement development process and ensure the corporation's ability to comply with all promises, deadlines, and/or commitments made to customers or Field Sales. You will deliver a complete, accurate, and professional contract/services agreement.

  • Direct and/or develop commercial subcontract service agreements with Herman Miler dealers and/or agents. You will ensure the subcontract service agreements used are complete, accurate, professional, and issued in a timely fashion.

  • Initiate action with the appropriate personnel to ensure internal partners are aware of, understand, and comply with all active contracts/services agreements. You'll provide legal assessments of Herman Miller's contractual obligations and rights as requested by internal partners.

  • Keep other Herman Miller departments and/or subsidiaries informed on service contract development progress and provide any needed documentation and consultation to ensure their compliance to all customer commitments.

  • Maintain a work-in-process contract/services agreement document control system and maintain all in-process contract files/documentation in a consistent, orderly, and organized fashion. You will ensure appropriate contractual documentation is provided for entry into the storage system. You'll also be prepared to provide a timely update on contract negotiations and/or contract status on an "as requested" basis.

  • Develop finely honed contract management skills in a wide variety of service business situations.

  • Perform additional responsibilities as requested to achieve business objectives.

  • Play a key role and/or lead team negotiations as appropriate. Service negotiation may be conducted face-to-face with customers or by telephone conference call - a Contracts Manager must be effective in both situations.

You might be just who we’re looking for if you have...

  • A Bachelor's degree in a Business-related field or applicable academic discipline.

  • Five to eight years of previous business experience with at least three years of successful contracts work in a capital goods industry or professional services.

  • A working knowledge of contract law and the Uniform Commercial Code.

  • A working knowledge of all antitrust legislation, including the Robinson Patman and Sherman-Clayton Antitrust Act.

  • A proven ability to interact effectively with others in an empowered team environment and use well-developed problem dispute and conflict resolution skills.

  • Strong interpersonal and human relations skills.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, particularly as applied to sales and services negotiations.

  • Proven analytical skills in finance and accounting and a high level of business acumen.

  • Strong organization, time management, and process management skills.

  • The ability to work effectively with different customer contacts, Purchasing Agents, Attorneys, and Facilities Designers, as well as the ability to anticipate individual needs.

  • The ability to effectively use the office automation, communication, software, and tools currently used in the Herman Miller office environment.

  • The ability to perform all essential job functions of the position with or without accommodations.
