JOB REQUIREMENTS: DESCRIPTION: This position is responsible to prepare the Tribal payroll and back up Casino payroll. The Payroll Clerk will prepare necessary reports, enter and track approved employee leave time as well as hours worked for purposes of tracking benefit eligibility, process income withholding orders and judgments, audit workers compensation pay and prepare and complete required federal and state filings related to payroll. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Review and input payroll information including new hire, reclass, promotion, termination, vacation payoff, deductions, and benefits in a timely manner. Review payroll information for errors to ensure accuracy of payroll within assigned time frame. Review, code and enter approved employee timecards and leave forms. Enter deductions for employee insurance, garnishments, levies, child support, worker's compensation, etc. into the payroll system. Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly, and other payroll reports and forms. Remit monies from the payroll account to federal and state income tax agencies, benefit carriers, garnishing agencies, and pension (401k) plan administrators. Prepare summary of run control reports when requested by CFO or Tribal Council. Process weekly payroll and distribute payroll checks within assigned time frame to Human Resources or as otherwise designated. Prepare annual W-2 forms and related reports. Maintain accurate and complete file of payroll records for audit purposes. Prepare employee leave time reports. Import payroll in accounting software system and ensure proper payroll posting by Department and or grant program. Adhere to and enforces policies and procedures related to accounting best practices including all Tribal/Casino policies and procedures. All other duties as assigned by the Lac Vieux Desert CFO or Tribal Treasurer. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Associates degree in Accounting and one-year payroll processing experience or high school diploma or GED equivalent and four years progressive payroll processing experience. One year of specialized training beyond high school, 10-key by touch, with six hours of accounting or equivalent credits. Proficient in word processing (Microsoft Office), knowledge in spreadsheet (Lotus or Excel) application, and database applications (Access or D-Base V). Effective keyboarding skills. Knowledge of internal revenue tax laws. Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, equipment and management principles. REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES Ability to keep up to date on changes in policies and procedures to maintain current working knowledge. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet constant deadlines. Ability to work beyond scheduled hours when required. Detail-oriented with skills in proofreading materials and data entry to ensure accuracy on various reports. Ability to organize data. Ability to read and interpret job documentation. Ability to provide accurate information or assistance to management or other accounting department staff in a timely and courteous manner. Ability to perform assigned responsibilities, duties, and tasks according to established practices, procedures, techniques, and standards with minimal supervision within the assigned time frame. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
