Job Description

Responsible for material development and specifying technical requirements for structural adhesive materials utilized in Body Structures and Closures, while offering limited adhesive support for other SMT’s.

  • Anti-flutter adhesives/mastics

  • Hem Adhesives

  • High Strength/Crash toughened adhesives

  • Low/Medium Strength Adhesives

  • Structural Inserts

  • Structural tapes

  • Panel Stiffeners

  • Interpret product designs along with performance and manufacturing requirements to select optimal adhesive materials.

  • Maintains contact with engineering functions as programs are developed, finalized and put into production and ensures proper specification of materials.

  • Assists in implementing adhesive changes.

  • Reviews eSOR documents to provide engineering direction to suppliers for quotations.

  • Participates in solution of engineering/material related product problems (Root Cause).

  • Supports Adhesives GSSLT and Technical Focus Group.

  • Provides technical direction to Product Development Teams, among others.

  • Works with engineering functions, suppliers, plant personnel and others toimplement cost reduction, methods improvement, product improvements, and to support build programs.

  • Plans and implements test and/or development programs in the area of adhesives.

  • Facilitates materials testing, assists with sample preparation, as needed.

  • Obtains material property data for analysis and development (VDDV)

  • Interprets test results for feedback to the Product Development Teams.

  • Validation & Documentation of new bonding combinations

  • Support DFMEA and PFMEA development and best practices

  • Product and Dispense troubleshooting activities

  • Communicates information to and from internal and external customer organizations.

  • Coordinates and consults with departments outside engineering such as Manufacturing, purchasing, & CCA.

  • Stays abreast of new technology and competitive products.

  • Develops written materials specifications for automotive materials.

  • Regular contact with others outside the work group.

  • Travels as required.

Additional Job Description

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering Required

  • Minimum two years of experience in engineering or manufacturing.

  • Knowledge of adhesive materials and surface science

  • Good oral and written communication skills

  • Understanding of design/manufacturing/material processes

Preferred Skills:

  • MS or PhD in Engineering

  • DFSS Certification(s) Preferred
