Job Description

Candidate’s primary responsibility is to support the System Lead Engineer in designing, engineering and releasing of Bumper, Grille, Fascia, and Exterior Trim subsystems (BGFT). The candidate will utilize a considerable amount of creativity and initiative.

Secondary responsibilities include:

  • Assist/Lead in the development of Statement of Requirements (SOR)

  • Assist/Lead PDT meeting for BGFT component/subsystems (suppliers, designers, engineers, imperatives, parts list, validation, manufacturing, supplier quality, DFM, etc)

  • Track subsystem imperatives (cost, timing, mass, warranty, etc.)

  • Development of criteria and typical sections (Unigraphics math data)

  • Design and packaging of BGFT Components

  • Perform appropriate studies/alternatives, and support program direction based upon cost, mass, timing, DFA, and other program imperatives

  • Support/lead design and technical reviews to ensure 100 percent design fidelity and all standard methodologies are implemented

  • Build/Support Interface Control Documents (ICD) requirements for component and subsystem interfaces.

  • Communicates information to and from both internal and external customer organizations

  • Release production design, on time with quality, to meet program all required program timelines.

Additional Job Description

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree with a major in engineering

  • Minimum three years of experience in Bumper, Fascia, Grille or comparable new product development

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Excellent program management skills

  • Excellent physics based problem solving skills


  • 3-5 years of full vehicle development cycle (studio creative design process through production launch)

  • Green Belt DFSS certification

  • Experience working with overseas automotive OEM's and suppliers

  • Knowledge of and/or training in:

  • Global safety standards and compliance.

  • Manufacturing processes and assembly

  • Plastic injection molding (both tooling and design)

  • Fixture design and product validation

  • Budget management
