Job Description

• Design, develop, and validate rear drive axle engineering solutions for new product development, current product improvement, and cost reduction projects. Plan, organize, and execute new technology development projects in accordance with our client I2C (Innovation 2 Concept) procedure.

Core Responsibilities:

• Conceptualize, design, and develop new product or product revisions in response to internal/external customer requirements, warranty issues, and/or cost reduction initiatives

• Lead engineering new technology I2C projects within allotted timeframe and budget

• Define and execute test programs and maintain DVP/PVP, DFMEA documentation

• Devise engineering solutions for problems and implement corrective design actions as required

• Perform engineering calculations such as vehicle performance, certification to regulations, component stress and fatigue life, geometrical fit, and static and dynamic load calculations, etc.

• Collaborate with suppliers and internal manufacturing to develop new design prototypes and processes

• Interface with other engineering functions to coordinate the development and release of new product or product revisions per project scope

• Raise awareness of new technology and opportunities to incorporate into new and current products or manufacturing processes

• Interface directly with external customers, end users, and suppliers, as well as internal Meritor Business Units, purchasing, sales, product support, and manufacturing functions

• Assure projects adhere to internal engineering policies and procedures

Additional Responsibilities:

• Establish strong working relationships with direct team, co-workers, suppliers, and customers as required

• Provide leadership and mentoring to less experienced engineering staff

• Document best practices and update product design guidelines as required

Technical/Professional Knowledge and Skills:

• Direct design experience with rear drive axle or similar product design, including concrete understanding of engineering and drivetrain fundamentals

• Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects in parallel

• Proficiency with MS Office products (Outlook, Word, Power Point, Excel)

• Knowledge of product development stage gate product development processes (e.g. GP3 or Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP)) including involvement in the launch of a new product

• Strong written and oral communication skills

• Demonstrated use of project management principles and tools

• Capability to apply technical skills across entire product base


• Bachelor degree in Engineering (BSME with MS preferred, but not required) with a minimum of ten years direct experience
