div bspanGENERAL SUMMARY: /span/bspanUnder moderate direction, assists licensed nursing staff in providing direct patient care and helps in the environment maintenance of the nursing unit under the direction of the staff nurse and within the scope of defined practice./spanbspanUNIT DESCRIPTION:/span/bspan This Mental Health Worker position will work in the Emergency Room./spanbspanESSENTIAL DUTIES:/span/bspanspan /spanspan /span/spanspan1. Collaborates with the RN in the physical and psychosocial assessment of/spanspanspan /spanpatient and demonstrates competency in the delivery, evaluation and/spanspanspan /spandocumentation of nursing care./spanspan2.span /spanEffectively documents patient care reflecting severity of illness and intensity of/spanspanspan /spanservice in the patient's medical record in a timely manner with minimum of/spanspanspan /spanevery shift./spanspan3.span /spanAssesses mental status of patient including hallucination, paranoia, delusions/spanbspanspan /span/span/bspansuicidal/homicidal ideation, etc./spanspan4.span /spanEvaluates patient chemical dependency, medication compliance, and patient/spanspanspan /spansafety to self and others./spanspan5.span /spanDiffuses crisis situations while maintaining safety for patient, family and self./spanspan6.span /spanAssists patient with emotional and psychological issues and provides support/spanspanspan /spanto facilitate patient comfort and well-being./spanspan7.span /spanAssists patients in coping with problems associated with mental illness./spanspan8.span /spanRecognizes, documents and communicates changes in cognitive abilities,/spanspanspan /spanaffect, behavior and mood./spanspan9.span /spanInteracts with patient's family and/or significant others with patient consent./spanspan10. Cognitive of job responsibilities and limitations and follows chain of command/spanspanspan /spanwhen appropriate./spanspan11. Participates in QI activities as defined by Behavioral Health Services./spanspan12. Demonstrates Customer Focus, Service First, and Oakwood's CREDO./spanspan13. Is responsible for making rounds every 15 minutes on patients, taking and charting /spanspanvital signs, collecting blood sugars and completing all computer charting i.e. Nurse Reporting Toolspan /spanand Flow Sheets.span /span/spanspan14.
