Assists and transports patients from nursing units to various imaging departments. The transporter assists and transports patients to and from nursing units to various testing departments within SMMH as directed by the Dispatcher / Coordinator. He/she performs various patient related activities, as assigned. The transporter also maintains the cleanliness of patient transportation equipment, such as wheelchairs, stretchers and monitors equipment for dysfunction or need for repair.




  • High school diploma or equivalent

B.Job Knowledge

  • Must be familiar with hospital organization, policies, techniques and procedures to transport patients efficiently.

  • Must be able to handle all types of patients.

C.Licensure/Certification: BLS

D.Training and Experience

  • Previous working with patients desirable but not essential.



  • Standing and walking most of time on duty.

  • Lifting and carrying equipment, supplies and patients.

  • Pushing and pulling wheelchairs, wheeled bed or stretcher.

  • Frequent bending, reaching, and handling of equipment and supplies used in transporting of patients.

  • Talking and hearing necessary for conversing with patients and supervisors.

B. Special

  • Ability to work to set procedures.

  • Manual and finger dexterity for moving hands easily and rapidly in aiding patients.

  • Hearing and verbal ability to understand instructions and communicate with patients.

  • Above average communication skills, both active and passive, required for timely and precise patient instructions.

  • Tact and patience in dealing with ill people
