CMU Medical Education Partners Psychiatry Department Nurse Practitioner in Saginaw, Michigan

Provide continuous and comprehensive services necessary for the promotion of optimal mental health, prevention and treatment of psychiatric disorders and health maintenance. This includes the assessment, diagnosis, and management of mental health problems and psychiatric disorders. The NPP works collaboratively with other on site medical and mental health providers as well as with community PCPs and school personnel.

  • Patient Care Management/Documentation

  • Work collaboratively with a physician and/or mental health provider of record, (if one exists), to provide comprehensive adolescent mental health services to students enrolled in the school-based clinic.

  • Through patient evaluation, determine a differential diagnosis and plan for intervention.

  • Adhere to standards via identified text and/or via office practice standard protocols.

  • Maintain a customer-oriented approach to meeting patient needs in an expedient manner, involving the family in the plan of care as appropriate.

  • Maintain confidentiality and patient privacy.

  • Document care provided; meeting standards for quarterly chart reviews.

  • Consultation and Referral

  • Seek consultations as appropriate, act as a consultant as requested.

  • Facilitate the process of ethical decision making as appropriate.

  • Perform comprehensive assessments and refer patients for further care and services within the CMED Health Partners

  • Patient Education

  • Utilize teaching learning theory with patients and their families to influence patient outcomes.

  • Identify learning needs of various populations and contribute to the development of educational programs to meet those needs.

  • Provide a site for student education as requested.

  • Communication/Citizenship

  • Identify system specific problems, which require evaluation and/or change; work with appropriate staff to resolve these issues by participating in performance improvement processes.

  • Takes an active role to contribute to the improvement of office functioning.

  • Successful completion of an approved nurse practitioner program.

  • Current approval by the joint Board of Medical Examiners and Board of Nursing to perform medical acts.

  • Must be currently licensed as a registered nurse in Michigan.

  • Ability to communicate clearly both in writing and verbally with students, health care team members.

  • Ability to function independently with regards to most clinical decision making.

  • Ability to relate well to teens, adults and geriatric clients.

  • Mental Health/Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner certification is desired
