Receives out patients, acquiring all pertinent data to complete the requisition and computer file in a polite and efficient manner. Prepares schedules for all modalities and verifies correct order for patient. Answers the phone, schedules examinations, directs the call or takes a message as needed. Sorts and distributes radiology reports daily. Prepares films for mail-out and receives films for return to folders. Supervises patients and families while in patient waiting rooms, keeping them informed of the status of their visit. Address patient needs and communicates with team members regarding patient questions and concerns. Promotes a positive and friendly first impression from the Front Desk.
1.Greets, receives and processes all patients by doing the following: acquiring all necessary information to complete the request and computer file, assuring the accuracy of all information and makes changes as needed, typing patient information into the computer system and printing request from printer, typing day sheet via the computer system with minimal amount of errors. Provides for patient needs specific to patients age. 2.Answers phones in a prompt, courteous manner. Will schedule exams for all departments within Radiology as needed, answer questions, direct the call to the proper person or take a complete message as needed. 3.Seeks out and reads reports to physicians or to their office staff. Calls preliminary and stat reports to ordering physician in a timely manner. 4.Participates in In-Service education and staff meetings. Assist as assigned to the Radiology Student Program. 5.Prepares films for mail out and clinic visits as necessary. 6.Responsible for tasks relating to transcription including but not limited to: solving exam discrepancies, deciphering Radiologist interpretation of multiple dictations, and monitoring and follow up on all released unread films. 7.Responsible for releases and returns of MHC films as well as responsible for handling of all outside films from other institutions/offices. 8.Instructs patients and physician's office staff on the proper order of exams and patient preparation. 9.Responsible for Quality Improvement Data which includes gathering and reviewing monthly documentation forms, retrieving and reviewing patient files for data and documenting and organizing data. 10.Has full working knowledge of computer system and/or acts as resource person. 11.Ability to operate copy machines and FAX machines, CD Burner, and aycan paper printer. 12.Performs routine cleaning of work area and associated equipment. Maintains a complete stock of necessary supplies. 13.Prepares patients for exams by directing them to the dressing rooms as needed, answering questions and modality notification of patient arrival. 14.Demonstrates working knowledge of departmental work flow. 15.Informs Radiology Management of problems, conflicts, and ideas for improvement. 16.Demonstrates safe and effective use of all equipment to include safety from electrical hazard. 17.Identifies and resolves problems related to patient medical record numbers, reports, and images. 18.Maintains professional conversations in and around patient care areas at all times. 19.Prints, sorts, and distributes Radiology Reports as needed. 20.Demonstrates job related aspects of patient safety to assure a safe environment, safe and effective use of equipment and technology, and decreased risk of potential adverse patient occurrences. This includes accurately identifying the patient and providing effective communication among caregivers. 21.Observes patient and employee confidentiality as described by the privacy policies of this institution. 22.Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served on his/her assigned unit. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the unit's and division's policies and procedures. 23.Demonstrates knowledge of and supports hospital and departmental mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality statements, corporate compliance plan, customer service standards, and the code of ethical behavior. 24.Initiates and participates in safety programs. These include fire safety, disaster, bomb threat, tornado, infection control, hazardous materials, electrical safety, and personal safety. 25.Transports patients in a safe manner. 26.Promotes teamwork among staff. 27.Communicates effectively with patients regarding questions, delays in appointment time/exam, as well as communicates with all external and internal customers. 28.Performs all other related duties as assigned.
High School diploma or GED. Higher education including courses in Typing, Computer Skills, Medical Terminology, and /or office procedures will be helpful.
TRAINING & EXPERIENCE
Prior medical office experience is desirable. Prior work with public in stressful situations are highly recommended. Phone etiquette is required.
Knowledge of medical terminology, radiology principles, and procedures and ability to alphabetize and numerically order data. Must be able to type at least 30 wpm.
