Henry Ford Health System Hospice Physician in Madison Heights, Michigan

The Henry Ford Medical Group Division of Hospice and Palliative Medicine is seeking a full-time hospice physician for the Henry Ford Hospice community team. This position includes patient care, teaching, scholarly work, and clinical leadership within the Henry Ford Hospice Program.

The physician will:

  • Serve as primary hospice physician for a hospice team (average daily census of 60), satisfy physician responsibilities for a team lead by our Nurse Practitioner (average daily census of 60) and provide physician back-up for our Nurse Practitioner

  • Satisfy all hospice physician responsibilities as set forth by the CMS Conditions of Participation

  • Perform Face to Face visits and home visits as needed upon hospice nurse request

  • Participate in hospice physician call schedule

  • Collaborate with the hospice Medical Director to ensure our medical care is in compliance with Michigan Department of Public Health and CMS Conditions of Participation

  • Collaborate with the hospice Medical Director to provide education, promote hospice services and increase access to hospice services for patients

  • Act as Medical Director in the Medical Director’s absence

  • Supervise and train medical students, residents, and fellows

  • Participate in hospice Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement program

Based on interest and skills the physician may:

  • Serve as a member of the Henry Ford Ethics Committee, Division Peer Review Committee or other Henry Ford Health System and Medical Group committees

  • Become a facilitator for the innovative communication skills education program, CLEAR Conversations

  • Participate in the development/maintenance of hospice and hospital-based protocols in pain, symptom management, advance directives, and other areas related to hospice and palliative medicine


  • Board-certification or Board-eligibility in Hospice and Palliative Medicine

  • Palliative Medicine Fellowship training or other comparable experience

  • Understand and promote the Hospice philosophy of care

  • Physical health status allowing for completion of physician responsibilities including performance of home visits
