Student Employee - Chemistry Preparation Lab Aide

Description

Student employees in the Chemistry Program will assist with: maintaining chemistry labs, setting-up and dismantling/clearing experiments for various Chemistry Lab Exercises. This required detailed, precise work in preparing hazardous reagents, effective cleaning of glassware and utensils and also following and enforcement of generally accepted safe lab practices and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Effective cleaning of glassware and utensils

  • Setting-up and dismantling/clearing experiments for various Chemistry Lab Exercises

  • Maintaining chemistry labs

  • Preparing reagents and solutions

  • Following and enforcement of generally accepted safe lab practices and procedures

Required Qualifications:

  • Must have Chemistry background. Minimum course completed: CHEM 125

PreferredQualifications:

  • Committed to a Chemistry/Chemistry related major

  • Course completed or currently enrolled in: CHEM 151, 161

  • High School Diploma preferred

  • 3.0 GPA preferred

  • Eligible for Federal Work-Study award through LCC Financial Aid

Education and Experience

The following requirements apply each semester, in order to maintain eligibility and continue working as a student employee:

  • Enrolled & actively attending is required to maintain employment eligibility (i.e. minimum credit hours at LCC by semester):

  • Fall and/or Spring Semester(s) = 6 credits

  • Summer Semester = 3 credits

  • International students with an F-1 visa and valid I-20 issued by LCC must meet the following minimum enrollment/credit requirements each semester, in order to maintain employment eligibility per United States Citizenship & Immigration Services (USICS) regulations:

  • Fall and/or Spring Semester(s) = 12 credits

  • Summer Semester = 3 credits

  • Must be at least 18 years of age and/or a high school graduate who is at least 17 with a valid, signed work permit

  • Minimum 2.0 GPA or have approval to waive requirement unless it is the student’s first semester of enrollment at LCC
