Student Employee - Biology Preparation Lab Aide

Student employees in the Biology Program will assist with: all aspects of Biology Labs and equipment. Setting-up, dismantling and cleaning are necessary and must always be practiced within the guidelines of Generally Accepted Good Laboratory Practices as dictated by the U.S.P. and U.S.D.A. Lab Aides must always follow the written preparation notebooks and oral expectations and directives for each lab exercise. This involves detailed work for preparing neutral as well as hazardous solutions, all types of lab equipment including autoclaving, fresh animal organs, following safe lab procedures and thoroughly disinfecting all aspects of the laboratory environment for the next lab exercise. Lab safety must be observed and practiced as controlled by the LCC Chemical Hygiene Plan, which must be read and understood by all employees.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Setting-up, dismantling and cleaning Labs

  • Thoroughly disinfecting all aspects of the laboratory environment for the next lab exercise

  • Preparing reagents and solutions

  • Preparing all types of lab equipment including autoclaving, fresh animal organs

  • Follow the written preparation notebooks and oral expectations and directives for each lab exercise

  • Lab safety must be observed and practiced as controlled by the LCC Chemical Hygiene Plan

​Required Qualifications:

  • Must have Biology and basic Chemistry background. Minimum courses: Biology 120, 121 and Chemistry 125 (all three required)

  • Biology 127 study

  • Biology major

PreferredQualifications:

  • Biology 127, 128, 145, 202, 204

  • Chemistry 151, 152

  • High School Diploma preferred

  • 3.0 GPA preferred

  • Eligible for Federal Work-Study award through LCC Financial Aid

Education and Experience

The following requirements apply each semester, in order to maintain eligibility and continue working as a student employee:

  • Enrolled & actively attending is required to maintain employment eligibility (i.e. minimum credit hours at LCC by semester):

  • Fall and/or Spring Semester(s) = 6 credits

  • Summer Semester = 3 credits

  • International students with an F-1 visa and valid I-20 issued by LCC must meet the following minimum enrollment/credit requirements each semester, in order to maintain employment eligibility per United States Citizenship & Immigration Services (USICS) regulations:

  • Fall and/or Spring Semester(s) = 12 credits

  • Summer Semester = 3 credits

  • Must be at least 18 years of age and/or a high school graduate who is at least 17 with a valid, signed work permit

  • Minimum 2.0 GPA or have approval to waive requirement unless it is the student’s first semester of enrollment at LCC

Hours per Week: Up to 25 Hours

Hourly Wage: $10.50
