Hillsdale College Director of Special Recruitment for Admissions in Hillsdale, Michigan

Direct, manage, and execute all strategies related to the recruitment of underserved students, and other targeted constituencies as needed.

  • Develop annual strategies and tactics for identifying, recruiting, enrolling, and retaining underserved students.

  • Direct personalized recruitment of all identified underserved students, including email, phone calls, in-person visits, etc.

  • Serve on the Application Review Committee, and help evaluate all applications of underserved candidates for admission.

  • Nominate and help select recipients of underserved scholarship awards, with the Senior Director of Admissions and Director of Financial Aid.

  • Conduct extensive travel to develop and cultivate relationships with underserved students, high school counselors, Community Based Organizations (CBOs), churches and youth groups, and other college decision influencers.

  • Conduct on- and off-campus interviews for underserved students, and serve as a secondary interviewer while on-campus when needed.

  • Participate in access fairs, conferences, and other professional gatherings focused on the recruitment of underserved students.

  • Manage relationships with vendors who aid in Hillsdale’s recruitment strategies for underserved recruitment.

  • Develop and manage on-campus visit programs for underserved students to Hillsdale on an individual basis and with large groups throughout the year.

  • In partnership with Admissions marketing, develop communication flow, collateral, and other necessary admission and scholarship marketing materials for underserved students and college decision influencers.

  • Develop a “Year 1” transition plan for enrolled underserved students during their first year of enrollment, and be an advocate for those students on campus.

  • Join and participate in professional organizations that facilitate underserved student recruitment and transition to college.

  • Develop on-campus summer programming for underserved students focused on topics such as leadership, law, service, and philanthropy.

  • Oversee budget related to special recruitment.

  • Manage the work and performance of future direct reports.

  • Direct and manage other special recruitment constituencies as needed in the future.

Education and Experience

This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree and three to five years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to demonstrate the ability to perform the job.

  • Experience in higher education admissions or enrollment preferred.

  • Experience in working with inner-city youth preferred.

  • A strong preference is given to candidates who are bi-lingual or have experience in communication in multiple cultural environments.

The Admissions Office interacts with College staff, prospective students and parents. The ability to present a positive image of the College in contact with students and campus visitors is essential. A clean and neat appearance and a pleasant relationship that is supportive of the College mission are essential.
