Certified Medical Assistant/Clinic Assistant

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Department: Medical - Family Practice

Location: Hancock, Michigan

Employment Status: Full-time

FTE: .8 (64 hours bi-weekly)

Physical Work Location: Hancock Family Health Center

POSITION SUMMARY:

Provides support to the desk and flow nurses in the clinic and providers. Performs technical tasks and office desk work tasks that are delegated by the clinic RN, LPN or provider.

Education, Training, Licensing and Credentialing

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Current life support certification

  • Experience or training in health care field

Preferred:

  • Previous medical office experience

  • Graduate from a recognized certified medical assistant program or certified nurse assistant program

  • Current certification/registration as a certified medical assistant (CMA) or certified nurse assistant (CNA)

Experience and Skills

Preferred:

  • Experience using eClinical Works (ECW)

  • Experience using Microsoft, including Outlook, Excel, Word & Power Point

  • Experience taking and recording vital signs (body temperature, pulse and blood pressure)

  • Effectively present information in small group situations

  • Knowledge of basic principles of health promotion, prevention and motivation

  • Knowledge of protocols in general and an ability to quickly gain specific knowledge of the Center’s current operational protocols

  • Knowledge of medical terminology and appropriate abbreviations

  • Demonstrates knowledge of the Michigan Nursing Practice Act

  • Ability to read and comprehend medical instructions, short correspondence, and memos

  • Ability to document, with clarity, all information relevant to a patient’s needs

  • Ability to effectively present information in small group situations to patients, staff, and the general public

  • Ability to work cooperatively with community agency personnel to coordinate services for patients

  • Ability to use office equipment including but not limited to computers, fax machines, telephones and copiers

  • Ability to prioritize and allocate resources

  • Typing skills
