Job Description:

Dematic has an immediate need for a Procurement Specialist based at our Grand Rapids, MI location.

  • Participate and facilitate in new quote activities involving pricing reviews with estimating team

  • Assist with information flow from estimating to project purchasing on potential and awarded programs

  • Tactical negotiations on direct material purchases (coordination with strategic team).

  • Develop and coordinate set up of new vendors, if needed, to support requirements for customers.

  • Execute purchases when required to support sold project activity and manage orders to support project activity.

  • Interface with Project Managers on purchasing items during project roll out.

  • Work with vendors to implement lead time reduction strategies.

  • Intent for this role is to develop a subject matter expert, fantastic opportunity for a self-motivated growth-minded individual.

General Requirements:

Position Summary:

Responsible to strategically develop and implement local commodity/supply chain strategies in accordance with corporate objectives. This includes spend analysis, implementation of commodity strategies, product feasibility, contract negotiations, capacity planning, forecasting directives and the ongoing development and management of strategic supplier relationships and risk mitigation. Leads cost reductions initiatives involving total cost evaluations of key product drivers, value analysis, alternative sourcing and working close with engineering teams to discover and pursue future technologies.

Job Family Responsibilities:

Participates in buying strategies to purchase and arrange timely deliveries of supplies and materials; expedites as needed and serves as liaison between vendors and users, getting prior approval for purchases in excess of established limits. Resolves delivery, quality or other related problems with purchases and invoices. Participates in updating project plans and purchasing systems; reviews and analyzes requisitions and supply plans for domestic purchases. Leads in the negotiation of prices, terms and quality requirements prepare; requests for quotes and assists in the development of new supply sources; evaluates market conditions. Solicits cost reduction ideas from suppliers and initiates follow up action to implement these savings for the company.

Performs important areas of standard professional level work that typically requires processing and interpreting, complex, less clearly-defined issues. Solves complex, unusual problems.


Typically BS/BA in related discipline or advanced degree. Certification may be required in some areas.

Knowledge & Experience

Demonstrates a good grasp of knowledge and principles of field of specialization and applies through successful completion of assignments. Successfully applies knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of particular area of specialization. Typically , 3-5 years of successful experience in related field and successful demonstration of Key Responsibilities and Knowledge as presented above. Advanced degree MAY be substituted for experience, where applicable.

Direction of Others:

May provide general guidance or train lower level support staff.

Key Working Relationships:

Primarily intra-organizational contacts and some external contacts.
