Meijer Assistant Manager, Fresh Line - Knapp's Corner in Grand Rapids, Michigan

Currently, Meijer is looking for an Assistant Manager to over our Fresh Line. The Fresh Line includes: Produce, Meat/Seafood, Bakery, Deli and Grocery. In this role you will plan, direct and supervises team members in the day to day operations in all areas of Fresh. You will develop strategies to improve customer service, drive store sales and increases profitability. In this role you will work to ensure customer needs are met, complaints are resolved effectively and efficiently and service is quick and efficient. You will forecast staffing needs and develops recruiting strategies to provide optimal staffing in all areas of responsibility

Key Deliverables:

  • Supervises the execution of the Merchandising plan to ensure that all products and displays are merchandised effectively to maximize sales and profitability.

  • Responsible for P&L, achieving sales, labor and margin plans for the department

  • Implements Corporate processes to achieve goals including shrink, margin, profit, sales, labor

  • Manages the performance of all team members in Fresh

  • Ensures the Fresh team is properly hired, staffed and thoroughly trained in all aspects of their jobs and have completed all required training

  • Reviews Fresh team daily ad orders for completeness and accuracy

  • Walks the Fresh area footprint multiple times to ensure that the shelves are full to maximize sales

  • Promotes succession planning by providing career paths and identifying development needs for the Fresh Team Leaders

  • Reviews Customer Surveys and customer feedback

  • Spends 80% of time on sales floor communicating with customers and team members to ensure exceptional service is being delivered by organizing and maintaining the Remarkable Service Board

  • Communicates the Meijer Friendly Initiative in all team meetings and conversations

  • Models exceptional, fast and friendly customer service

  • Reviews sales goals, supply costs, stock loss/shrink results and goals

  • Promotes a safe work environment throughout the area

  • Reliable and consistent attendance required

  • Work until at least 11pm on nights scheduled to close

  • Other daily tasks as required

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience

  • 6 – 10 years of related experience in the field

  • Rotational assignments in other areas of the store such as grocery, meat, bakery, produce and deli; also customer service and product flow experience is helpful

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate to team members in the organization in a way that provides clear and precise direction

  • Demonstrated ability to resolve conflict and by addressing root cause issues

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze financial and statistical information and use that information to make informed decisions

  • Demonstrated ability to teach suggestive selling

  • Demonstrated ability to lead an organization that practices working safely at all times

  • Demonstrated ability to mentor team members in all areas of the organization

  • ServSafe Certification a plus

  • Duty trained
