Golder has a new opportunity for a full-time Project Hydrogeologist to join our Detroit-area office ( Farmington Hills, Michigan ). In this role you will work on environmental projects that involve field investigations, contractor oversight, technical document preparation, task and project management, and working as a team with coworkers.

Your responsibilities in this role will include:

  • Engaging in a team environment, working closely with project managers and co-workers to complete work programs

  • Managing projects associated with implementation of field programs and report preparation

  • Managing or performing subsurface field geologic/hydrogeologic investigation tasks including drilling, aquifer and geophysical testing, installing monitoring wells/piezometers, and collecting environmental samples (e.g., soil, groundwater, surface water, etc.)

  • Procuring, coordinating, and overseeing subcontractors (e.g., laboratories, drillers)

  • Operating, maintaining, and monitoring remedial systems

  • Accurately documenting field programs (field forms, drilling logs, field notebooks, daily reports, etc.) to identify site conditions, observations, and activities

  • Preparing cost proposals

  • Preparing environmental monitoring and technical reports by compiling and interpreting data and summarizing findings, including the ability to routinely write letters and regulatory reports with limited assistance from senior professionals

  • Performing Phase I site assessments

  • Collaboratively implementing Golder’s business growth strategy with colleagues

  • Developing and maintaining relationships with a broad network of internal and external clients

  • Mentoring junior staff

  • Handling equipment, including maintenance, calibration to operational and regulatory requirements, with an ability to lift and move approximately 50 pounds without assistance

  • Performing work safely, both in the field and office

  • Traveling up to 40% of schedule for out-of-town project opportunities, including periods of more than five days, while working outdoors in all seasonal weather conditions

  • Operating field vehicles safely on behalf of the company

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Bachelor’s degree in hydrogeology, geology or other geoscience-related field required; Master’s degree preferred

  • Minimum of five years’ relevant experience

  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER and 8-hour refreshers (as applicable) is required for site work, preferential consideration for candidates with this training

  • Excellent verbal and strong writing and organizational skills combined with leadership ability, a positive attitude, and ability to work both independently and within groups

  • Strong attention to detail; accuracy is essential

  • Competence in the Microsoft Office suite of programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint); preferential consideration for candidates with experience using database and statistical applications, and groundwater and contaminant modeling software

  • A willingness to perform a variety of assignments on short notice

  • Understanding the importance of health & safety as a top priority and an enthusiasm to participate in Golder’s associated programs
