Under general supervision, oversees the functions involved in the service, repair, transport and storage of election equipment and supplies, and performs difficult and responsible related clerical work.

Examples of Duties


  • Implements assignments and devises specific procedures in order to achieve results.

  • Supervises the activities of technicians engaged in the service, repair and set-up of computerized voting equipment and devices.

  • Supervises the activities of storekeeping staff in the ordering, maintaining, stocking, storing and computerized tracking of election operating supplies.

  • Ensures computerized election equipment is tested and functioning properly.

  • Ensures election operating supplies such as official ballots, envelopes, and Absentee Voter items are properly ordered, stocked and inventoried.

  • Repairs voting and tabulation devices, voting signs and ballot boxes.

  • Installs, tests and seals computerized data collection equipment.

  • Supervises the activities of workers in the transport and delivery of computerized voting equipment, voting devices and other polling location supplies.

  • Supervises the activities of workers in the preparation of test ballot decks for polling precincts and Absentee Ballot precincts.

  • Supervises the activities of workers in the preparation of supply lists and boxes for all of the various Election Day operations.

  • Implements DRMS procedures relating to the acquisition and disposition of supplies.

  • Schedules work and adjusts assignments as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications

High School graduation or equivalent (GED).

Four (4) years of specific election experience involving the use, service, repair, transport and storage of election materials, supplies and equipment in a large municipality.

Supplemental Information

Subjects and Weights:

  1. Computerized Examination: 70% Max.

  2. Training, Experience and Personal Qualifications: 30% Max.

  3. Total: Computerized Examination and Training, Experience and Personal Qualifications: 100% Max.


Employees in this class will be required to operate a City owned motor vehicle.

Employees in this class must possess a valid State of Michigan Operator license.

Candidates considered for placement in this classification may be subject to a Criminal Background Investigation based on the requirements of the position.


Work is performed in a variety of settings including shops and store rooms and involves transporting and moving heavy equipment and supplies, standing for long periods of time, and substantial amounts of time spent at various voting locations.

Sick Leave

City employees accrue sick leave based on the number of regular hours worked. Full time employees earn ninety-six (96) hours of sick leave per year. You may carry over your unused sick leave. Effective July 7, 2012 maximum accumulation is 300 hours.

City Employees Retirement System

As a regular City employee you automatically become a member of the General Retirement System. This entitles you to a retirement allowance after:

• Completion of thirty (30) years of service; - At age sixty (60) if you have at least ten (10) years of service, or - At age sixty-five (65) with eight (8) years of service. (In the event of disability, other eligibility rules apply); • An early, actuarially reduced, retirement is offered after you have attained at least twenty-five (25) years of service; • Employees are vested after ten (10) years of service, regardless of age.
