Ford’s Research and Advanced Engineering team explores new vehicle and societal innovations that require some level of invention before they can be applied to our products and services. The team is building on a history of Ford innovation, including our invention of the three-way catalytic converter to modernize vehicle emissions controls in the 1970s and the world’s first rear inflatable seat belts in 2010.
Today, we are exploring and delivering ways to make smarter vehicles and our transportation system more efficient to improve people’s lives by helping them move more freely, safely and enjoyably. For example, we are changing how our products are made by creating high-quality vehicles in an environmentally and socially responsible way, including the use sustainable materials. Since 2000, we have used 12 industry and world-first plant-based materials in our production vehicles. We also are researching the possible use of tomato skin, bamboo, agave fiber, dandelion roots, algae and coffee chaff as part of our ambitious goal of making our vehicles with up of 20 percent sustainable material by 2025.
What you will be able to do

That’s why we’re looking to you to help us develop and integrate innovative next generation electrified powertrain systems and technologies. Your efforts will focus on advancing the state-of-the-art in battery electric and fuel cell vehicles. You will:
Lead electrified powertrain research projects
Coordinate workstreams to achieve project goals and results including prototype vehicle demonstration
Develop and cascade system and subsystem requirements to meet overall vehicle and powertrain requirements
Lead multi-functional teams (e.g. motor, battery, driveline, high voltage system, fuel cell, transmission, controls, calibration, etc.) in the development of requirements, attribute assessment, robustness assessment and design verification plans for new electrified technology
Collaborate to optimize, deliver and integrate appropriate hardware and control solutions
Ensure solutions are robust in the presence of noise factors by developing and maintain system and technology quality documents (e.g. Boundary Diagrams, P-Diagrams, DFMEA, etc.)
Prepare and present reviews to management
Work with forward model engineering organizations to ensure support, peer review and successful technology transfer of projects into production workstreams
Manage project logistics (e.g. roles and responsibilities, meetings, budgets, timing, etc.)
The minimum requirements we seek
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
Two or more years of experience with electrified propulsion system functionality (e.g. HEV, BEV, Fuel Cell, etc.)
Two plus years of experience leading projects
Our preferred requirements
Master’s Degree in Engineering
Four or more years of experience with electrified propulsion system functionality
In-depth knowledge of systems engineering methodologies (e.g. P-diagrams, FMEA’s, DVP&R, etc.)
Highly motivated, self-starter with proven leadership, technical, communication and interpersonal skills
