Ford’s Research and Advanced Engineering (R&A) team explores new vehicle and societal innovations that require some level of invention before they can be applied to our products and services. The team is building on a history of Ford innovation, including our invention of the three-way catalytic converter to modernize vehicle emissions controls in the 1970s and the world’s first rear inflatable seat belts in 2010.

Today, we are exploring and delivering ways to make smarter vehicles and our transportation system more efficient to improve people’s lives by helping them move more freely, safely and enjoyably. For example, we are changing how our products are made by creating high-quality vehicles in an environmentally and socially responsible way, including the use of sustainable materials. Since 2000, we have used 12 industry and world-first plant-based materials in our production vehicles. We also are researching the possible use of tomato skin, bamboo, agave fiber, dandelion roots, algae and coffee chaff as part of our ambitious goal of making our vehicles with up of 20 percent sustainable material by 2025.

What you will be able to do

It takes the finest minds in a variety of disciplines to make our mobility innovations possible. This includes critical partnerships with top universities. Reporting directly to our Global Manager, External Alliances (GMEA), you will support a variety of core process activities that are key to facilitating our annual global university proposal development and assessment process. You will

  • Assist on operational aspects of our university research partnerships

  • Help non-university external entities form connections to Ford

  • Assist handling CTO and other executive assignments

  • Contribute to other R&A Business Office (RABO) projects and initiatives

  • Assist R&A Chief of Staff (COS) and RABO Director with special projects/assignments

  • Assist in development and execution of R&A and RABO strategies and processes

  • Support development and tracking of budget/resource processes for R&A RABO organization

  • Support R&A and RABO events and prepare executive level presentation material

  • Maintain the highest level of confidentiality and manage sensitive information with extreme care

  • Assist RABO Team Leaders in completion of tasks

The minimum requirements we seek

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • Three or more years of professional work experience

Our preferred requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Science, Business, Engineering or Planning

  • Five plus years of experience with planning, prioritizing and supporting multiple assignments and projects simultaneously

  • Previous collaborative interactions with universities

  • Poise and confidence interacting with executive management

  • Demonstrated project management skills

  • Experience analyzing quantitative data and preparing charts

  • Detail orientated with passion for meticulous record keeping

  • Experience supporting technical/business strategies and building programs from the ground up

  • Experience and knowledge of Ford processes and systems

  • Experience with Business Office management and administrative tasks

  • Strong IT background handling databases and websites/SharePoint sites, One Drive

  • Strongly motivated, self-starter with validated leadership, technical, communication and interpersonal skills

  • Creativity, flexibility and intellectual curiosity

  • Be highly organized with phenomenal efficiency

  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills

  • Proficient with Microsoft Tool Suite (e.g. Outlooks, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)

  • Flexible/broad rather than specialist/narrow orientation
