Job Description & Qualifications:

Position Overview/Description:

The Electrified Powertrain Engineering Team is currently looking for a highly qualified and motivated engineer to join the Ford Team in the position of HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle) MBCO (Model Based Calibration Optimization) Engineer. This position will be responsible for the development of Model Based Optimization Tools and Methods, and to apply those tools to the design and verification process. Position candidates should have a keen interest in analytical engineering work, mathematical models, and machine learning algorithms, but will also have the opportunity to interface with vehicle test activities.[


  • Develop advanced novel hybrid powertrain CAE tools to support development and validation in a CAE environment of next generation hybrid system controls and calibrations that deliver optimized operation of targeted attributes.

  • Develop calibration optimization algorithms and techniques for utilization in the delivery of hybrid powertrain control system operation that delivers vehicle level customer attributes

  • Support development of SIL model integration tool chains for improved model development and delivery efficiency.

  • Perform model correlation and validation of HEV virtual vehicle model applications against prototype test data.

  • Interface with the Big Data team to achieve automation of required data collection, analysis and reporting for model correlation and data analysis tasks.

  • Collaborate with the HEV powertrain calibration team to identify required calibration use cases to support development and achievement of efficient engineering processes.

  • Document developed tools and methods for the proliferation of advanced model development and model based calibration techniques.

Job Requirements:

Basic Qualifications:

  • BSc in Mechanical OR Electrical Engineering

  • 2+ years of experience Model Development, Optimization Methods and Analysis Delivery

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or Mathematics

  • 2+ years of experience with Powertrain Model Development on Hybrid applications

  • 2+ years of experience of developing powertrain models and performing power, efficiency, and thermal analysis using model simulation packages such as; Matlab, Simulink, Stateflow, Dymola, Mode Frontier, Modelica

  • Knowledge and application of control system theory

  • Demonstrated application of statistical models

  • Familiarity with On Board Diagnostics, Fuel Economy, Electric Vehicle Range, Vehicle Performance, Vehicle Drivability, and Emission Regulatory Requirements Worldwide

  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills

  • Self- motivated with the ability to manage multiple tasks
