R&D Powertrain Systems Engineer
We are looking for a highly self-motivated individual who is ready to take on a technology development and innovation role. The candidate should possess good attention to detail, good mentorship ability, be creative, and possess good time management skills. This position is for research and development, including systems engineering, analysis, calibration and verification of electric drive systems, and enforcing the technology development process from research through to production implementation. This position allows the candidate to assist in developing electric powertrain technology for next generation products. The candidate will also be responsible to support cross-functional engineering throughout multiple technical groups within the organization, provide technical mentorship and training to team members, and develop new control system algorithms.
Responsible for systems engineering of electric driveline systems.
Understands and creates system and subsystem specifications/requirements.
Calibrates functional system and vehicle control characteristics.
Performs tests and validation of electric driveline system and vehicle requirements.
Participates in all aspects of technical projects pertaining to electric drive systems (mechanical, electrical, software, etc) with cross-organizational teams.
Designs and optimizes simultaneous system performance goals through requirements flow down.
Enforces the technology development process for technical projects from research through production implementation.
Provides technical leadership for projects incorporating complex electromechanical (mechatronic) systems.
Effectively integrates all aspects of a design through multi-disciplinary engineering.
Develops documentation to comply with automotive SPICE.
Diagnoses and corrects deficiencies in designs and prototypes.
Stays abreast of new technology and recent developments and trends in the research and academic arena related to motion control technologies.
Assists in maintaining cost controls through development of cost optimal system designs and architectures.
Evaluates various design alternatives to determine optimal design to achieve project goals
Defines developmental test and analysis methods
Interfaces with cross-functional teams to understand requirements and review designs.
General competency in all core fields (electrical, mechanical, computer hardware and software).
At least 5 years of work experience in design and development required; 10 or more of experience years preferred.
Background in automotive engineering and chassis systems (steering, braking, suspension, powertrain, etc).
Excellent problem definition and solving techniques.
Proven ability to create new products, algorithms, and systems through innovation.
Strong computer skills, and knowledge of simulation tools (e.g. Matlab/Simulink).
Knowledge of system synthesis, analysis and verification techniques.
Familiarity with formal requirements management tools (i.e., DOORS)
Good organization and documentation abilities.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and with others.
Highly motivated with good time management skills
Excellent communication skills and a desire to work with people
Stays abreast with new technology.
Ability to learn quickly on the job
Experience with debugging and problem resolution
Familiarity with Vector based analysis and development tools preferred
Mechanical and electrical knowledge of automotive subsystems.
Good written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated ability to work independently and with others
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, Computer or Mechatronics Engineering
Speaking & Listening: This position is highly communicative through phone, web ex, skype, and face to face with work team and customers utilizing English as the primary language. Communicating with work team and customers; This job requires the perception of speech.
Carrying: The employee will need to carry a laptop case or backpack with computer while travelling. Occasionally be required to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
Walking: Occasionally be required to walking through manufacturing environment and from building to building. Must be able to walk from building to building and stand for periods of time
Stooping & Crouching: The employee will occasionally be required to bend forward by bending at the waist or by bending legs and spine.
Sitting: Must be occasionally able to sit for extended periods of time.
Standing: Must be occasionally able to stand for extended periods of time.
Climbing: The employee will occasionally need to climb stair/ladders within the manufacturing/garage/lab environment.
Working inside and around ground vehicles: While inside a vehicle, the employee will be primarily seated. Could be occasionally in other postures (e.g. crouching, kneeling, bending, stretching) while reaching to various parts inside the vehicles for connecting/installing/operating mechanical/electrical/electronic equipment.
