ProQuest Software Architect Sr in Ann Arbor, Michigan


In this position, you will also…

  • Architect, design, and implement solutions to meet a business need to search and retrieve documents efficiently; typically will master multiple subsystems of a large scale system and play key roles in enterprise projects.

  • Provide technical leadership on large-scale projects, resolves issues, perform appropriate level of research to determine solutions, and prioritize and suggest technical strategies to achieve the long-term objectives of the department.

  • Review requirements; generate architecture documents; provide rough order of magnitude estimates; and implement and perform unit, integration, and capacity testing.

  • Evaluate and design changes to improve quality, performance, cost reduction, and standardization through analysis of designs and problem solving techniques.

  • Collaborate with business owner to ensure proper understanding of requirements and expectations of technical solutions.

  • Work with others in the team to develop implementation plans, functional testing strategies and capacity testing.

  • Share architecture formally and informally with team, ensuring design consistency during development.

  • Write architecture documentation.

  • Propose, develop, reviews and revises new procedures as needed for the continuing development of high quality systems.

  • Provide support to the ProQuest Platform search subsystem.

  • Provide technical guidance to other team members.

  • Maintain knowledge of and proposes technical advances based on newer technologies.

  • Evaluate hardware and capacity needs.

Ideal Qualifications:

  • Bachelors’ degree or higher in Computer Engineering or Computer Science or equivalent experience.

  • 10 or more years of software development experience.

    Previous software architecture experience:

  • 5 or more years’ experience writing functional / detailed design / architectural specifications based on user and/or system requirements.

  • Experience with an information retrieval/search engine technology, such as SOLR, ElasticSearch, Lucene, FAST or similar.

  • Understanding of advanced principles of software architecture.

  • Masterful understanding and application of several programming languages and tools (Linux, Java, Python)

  • Masterful understanding of XML.

  • Ability to support systems after hours or on weekends.

  • Ability to work with standard office tools.

  • Ability to work with source control systems.

  • Ability to work with architecture and design tools.

  • Ability to work in an agile environment.

Superstar Candidates May Also Have…

  • A passion for information retrieval and solving problems in this space

  • AWS or similar cloud-based computing experience

  • Experience with SQL databases such as Oracle and MySQL

  • Experience with load balancing technologies such as haproxy

  • Experience with RESTful

Ancillary Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree (or higher) in Computer Engineering or Computer Science.

  • This position is typically based in a ProQuest office location and may be appropriate for full or partial remote work, subject to approval.

  • Occasional travel may be required.

  • This position requires weekday (Monday - Friday) attendance with some scheduling flexibility available around core working hours.
